General Tso’s chicken is one of my most favorite Chinese food takeout option. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a lot of restaurants, including my favorite Chinese restaurant isn’t opened, so I decided why not make General Tso’s chicken (a sweet, tad bit spicy bursting with ginger and garlic flavor).
Today I will be giving a step-by-step direction on how to make this chicken with a little twist (coconut flour). Yes!!! coconut flour, amidst, the pandemic most stores close to me ran out of all-purpose flour, so I thought “why not just use coconut flour” and voila… it worked.
What you need
5 pieces of chicken thighs(boneless and skinless)
Egg
Corn starch
Coconut flour
Soy sauce
Rice vinegar
General Tso’s sauce
Ginger
Garlic
Chilli flakes
Oil
Sugar
Salt
Black pepper
Water
Without further ado, let’s get cooking.
—————————————————————————————————————————————-
Cut chicken into bite sizes
Transfer into a bowl, add egg, 1/4 corn starch, 1/3 coconut flour, salt and pepper to taste, and little bit of soy sauce
Give it a good mix, let it sit for about 10 mins
Fry until golden brown and set aside.
Chop up 4 cloves of garlic and garlic, set aside
In a small bowl, combine 3 tbsp soy sauce, 3 tbs sugar, 1-2 tbs rice vinegar, 1/3 cup or less of cornstarch, about 2-3 tbsp General Tso’s sauce, 1/4 cup of water.
Give it a good whisk and set aside.
In a wok pan (you can use regular fry pan too)
Toast some chilli flakes
Add a little oil
Toss in garlic and ginger
Fry for 1-2 mins
Add the combined mixture
Let it cook a bit (do not let it thickennnnnnnnnnnn, even if it’ll be thickened, just a little bit would do)
Toss in chicken
Serve with rice or eat by itself.
